Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Structure


Lithium-ion batteries generally consist of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, an electrolyte, and a separator.


a) The positive electrode is a compound containing metallic lithium, typically a lithium iron phosphate (such as lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) or lithium cobalt phosphate (LiCoO2).


b) The negative electrode is graphite or carbon (graphite is generally used).


c) The electrolyte is an organic solvent, typically lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) combined with an organic solvent.


d) The separator is a special composite membrane that separates the positive and negative electrodes, preventing electrons from passing through while allowing lithium ions to pass through, thereby enabling rapid lithium ion transfer between the positive and negative electrodes during electrochemical charge and discharge. Currently, the porous membrane is primarily made of polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP).
