Solar Panels - Working Principle


Direct light-to-electricity conversion utilizes the photoelectric effect to convert solar radiation directly into electrical energy. The basic device for this conversion is a solar cell. A solar cell is a device that converts sunlight directly into electricity through the photovoltaic effect. It is a semiconductor photodiode. When sunlight strikes the photodiode, it converts the solar energy into electricity, generating an electric current. When multiple cells are connected in series or parallel, they form a solar cell array with a relatively high output power. Solar cells are a promising new power source, offering three major advantages: permanence, cleanliness, and flexibility. They have a long lifespan; as long as the sun is shining, they offer a one-time investment and long-term operation. Compared to thermal and nuclear power generation, solar cells do not cause environmental pollution. Solar cells can be used in a variety of sizes, from medium-sized, multi-million-kilowatt power plants to small, single-family solar cell arrays. Their panel materials are unmatched by other power sources: glass, EVA, cell sheets, aluminum alloy casings, tin-clad copper sheets, stainless steel, and batteries.
