Lead-acid power batteries have the longest history of application and the most mature technology. They are currently the most widely produced power battery. Their greatest advantage is low production cost, but their greatest disadvantage is low specific energy. An electric car can travel only about 100 kilometers on a single charge. A survey of daily mileage by private car owners in the United States shows that approximately 90% of people travel less than 160 kilometers per day, while the remaining 10% travel 240 kilometers or more. Based on this, some have proposed increasing the specific energy of lead-acid power batteries, enabling them to travel over 160 kilometers on a single charge. At the same time, research into fast-charging lead-acid battery technology would be sufficient for short-distance driving and transportation in most urban areas. Of the five performance indicators, price and specific power are both excellent, so the main focus of improvement is on specific energy, cycle life, and fast charging.
