Investment in Spain's Energy Storage Systems Reaches €400 Million

Spain's battery industry is expanding its value chain, with €400 million invested in energy storage systems and a planned 22 GW installation target

 

 

 

Spain is moving beyond its role as a cell superfactory, consolidating its position in the European battery supply chain. The development of battery energy storage, module and battery pack manufacturing, industrial equipment supply, and the entry of new international investors are driving the country's expansion across multiple segments of the strategic value chain for transportation electrification and renewable energy integration.

 

The 2026 Battery Map report shows that, in addition to planned cell production projects, Spain also has industrial activities in other key segments of the battery ecosystem, including module and battery pack assembly, custom 3.2V 304Ah LiFePO4 battery cell for solar energy storage applications, emerging technology development, and the manufacturing of industrial process machinery related to battery production and battery energy storage hire. The report indicates that the country has battery module and battery pack manufacturing facilities in Martorell, Figueruelas, Valencia, and Navarre. Simultaneously, the country's industry is extending into the engineering and manufacturing of battery production equipment.

 

Chinese company Haichen Energy Storage recently announced plans to invest approximately €400 million in Navarre to build an energy storage system manufacturing plant, a project that could create nearly 1,000 direct jobs. Spain's National Energy and Climate Integrated Plan aims to achieve approximately 22 gigawatts of energy storage capacity by 2030, attracting investment from industries related to batteries, power electronics, and control systems. Basque company Ingeteam develops battery inverters and power conversion systems for battery and renewable energy power plants, while multinational technology companies such as Sungrow are deploying battery storage systems in Spain. The report also highlights initiatives related to emerging technologies, such as magnesium antimony liquid metal battery for stationary energy storage and the innovative solutions being developed by BLOO POWER.
