A lead-acid battery consists of a casing, positive and negative plates, separators, and electrolyte. The basic unit is a single cell. By connecting different numbers of cells in series according to usage requirements, lead-acid battery assemblies with varying voltages and capacities can be obtained.

1) Casing: Also known as the battery container, it holds the positive and negative plates and electrolyte. It requires strong acid resistance and sufficient mechanical strength and is typically made of polypropylene.

2) Positive and negative plates: These are the main components that react with the electrolyte to generate electricity. They consist of a grid and active material. The plates' primary functions in a lead-acid battery are: the matrix of the electrochemical reaction; the electrode that generates voltage; and the converter of current.

3) Separator: Made of microporous rubber, plastic, or fiberglass. Its primary functions are to prevent short circuits between the positive and negative plates; ensure the smooth passage of positive and negative ions in the electrolyte to participate in the electrode reaction; and prevent the loss of lead paste between the positive and negative plates and vibration damage to the plates.

4) Electrolyte: It is made of sulfuric acid and deionized water or distilled water. Starting lead-acid batteries generally use 1.28g/cm3 of electrolyte. Its main functions are: participating in electrochemical reactions; being a conductor of positive and negative ions in the solution; and being a diffuser of heat generated by the plates.
