The Czech Republic Opens Grid Connection Applications for Standalone Energy Storage Projects; New Law Exempts Mandatory Power Generation Requirements
ČEZ Distribuce, the largest electricity distributor in the Czech Republic, announced that it will begin accepting applications for standalone energy storage systems through its online distribution portal starting September 19, 2025. The LEX OZE III law, which will take effect on October 1, 2025, officially recognizes energy storage as an independent business activity and allows battery systems to be directly connected to the grid without concurrent power generation.
These energy storage systems can provide power balancing services, stabilize grid fluctuations, and trade stored energy. The new rules support both large-scale batteries and standalone energy storage applications. Energy experts also organized a pre-launch webinar to guide participants through the submission process, review information, modify existing project requests, and answer questions.
The webinar attracted over 700 participants, primarily from implementing companies and potential investors. More details are available on ČEZ Distribuce's energy storage homepage.
