South Australia's rooftop PV penetration rate exceeds 50%, resulting in a sharp change in grid demand: in the 2024-25 fiscal year, there have been 27 days with demand falling below 100MW (exceeding the total in the previous fiscal year), eight of which were negative, and a new record of -54MW was recorded on February 16, 2025 (excluding power outages).

Transmission company ElectraNet confirmed that 90% of grid connection points experienced reverse transmission, highlighting the need for flexible technology. The state ranks first in the world with an average annual share of 74% of wind and solar power, and plans to achieve 100% renewable energy in 2027. Currently, more than ten large-scale battery projects are under construction, with a stock of 50,000 household batteries.

On the other hand, interest in industrial photovoltaics has surged, with 37 companies submitting 15GW grid connection applications, equivalent to five times the state's average peak load.
