According to the Swiss consulting firm Pexapark, by the first half of 2025, companies had signed 4.22GW of solar PV PPAs (power purchase agreements).
This is slightly higher than the nearly 4GW solar PV PPAs signed in the same period of 2024. However, this is not enough to offset the overall decline in renewable energy PPAs signed in the first half of 2025, which decreased by 25% year-on-year.
A more detailed examination of the current situation of European solar PV PPAs reveals that the number of such agreements has dropped significantly from 95 signed in the first half of 2024 to 73 in the first half of 2025. Following a low point in May that was one of the lowest since 2020, renewable energy PPAs saw a month-on-month increase of over 700% in June, reaching nearly 1.4GW. These figures are even more consistent with the records from April and March this year.
In June, the solar PV projects had the largest number of signed contracts, and the total installed capacity reached 1.2GW in 12 deals. The renewable energy procurement activities in Spain and Italy were the most active in June, with 579MW in 6 deals and 420MW in 2 deals respectively.
