Egyptian Electricity Minister Visits China to Advance Localization of Battery Storage Factories and Grid Upgrade Cooperation

 

Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Assemat, departed for China on January 15, 2026, to explore strengthening cooperation in electric vehicle manufacturing and the expanding battery market for energy storage systems. The visit aims to leverage advanced technologies to support and develop the electricity grid, enhancing its capacity to absorb additional renewable energy capacity and ensuring the sustainability of renewable energy supply in the energy mix to guarantee the stability of the unified grid.

 

 

 

During the visit, the Minister will meet with representatives of several major Chinese companies to attract further investment in the power and energy sectors. Specific discussions will involve cooperation with leading battery energy storage systems manufacturer Htheem and grid connection systems company Tepia, negotiating the implementation steps for establishing two factories in Egypt. This initiative is based on Egypt's industrial localization plan and the strategies developed by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to ensure the implementation of the national energy strategy.

 

The trip includes site visits to several factories specializing in battery energy storage, wind turbines, wind farms, and electric vehicle manufacturing in the solar energy sector. The delegation will examine advanced technologies, including containerised battery energy storage system solutions, which are pivotal for rapid deployment and grid integration. This visit is part of a series of initiatives by Egypt to promote the localization of electric vehicle manufacturing, introduce advanced technologies, support grid development, enhance renewable energy absorption capacity, and maximize benefits through energy storage technologies, which have become crucial in shifting towards reliance on solar and wind energy to maintain grid stability and ensure the sustainability of electricity supply.
