A new state-backed green bank - Energy Security Corporation (ESC) - has launched in New South Wales, Australia, with an initial capital allocation of 1 billion Australian dollars (640 million US dollars).
This plan aims to accelerate the development of renewable energy infrastructure, focusing on large-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects. ESC will accelerate investment in renewable energy assets, including community batteries, large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), virtual power plants (VPP), and pumped hydro energy storage (PHES). The investment authorization will also cover projects for upgrading infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of the power grid and to support the use of energy resources by households, businesses and communities.
Energy Service Company (ESC) is a government-backed investor that collaborates with private sector partners to invest and fill the key gaps in the energy market. ESC targets areas that require additional financial support, aiming to accelerate the energy transition in the state and enhance grid reliability.
