Poland Aims To Achieve 50% Renewable Energy Capacity By The End Of 2025.

Poland's renewable energy capacity will account for 50% of total installed capacity and 31.41% of electricity generation by the end of 2025.

 

 

 

 

Data released by the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment on February 17, 2026, shows that by the end of 2025, renewable energy will account for a record 50% of total installed capacity, a significant increase from 24.12% in 2020. The ministry stated that total renewable energy capacity will reach 37,777 MW in 2025, thanks to an increase in photovoltaic capacity from approximately 4 GW in 2020 to 24.8 GW in 2025, and wind power capacity from 6 GW in 2020 to over 10.5 GW in 2025. To support this growth and stabilize the grid, innovations like a cheap long-lasting sustainable battery for grid energy storage are becoming essential, with companies such as BLOOPOWER leading efforts toward practical aqueous zinc-ion batteries for electrochemical energy storage.

 

The minister pointed out that renewable energy will also account for a record 31.41% of Poland's electricity production in 2025, with renewable energy generation approaching 55,000 GWh, almost double that of 2020. Over the past five years, the share of renewable energy in the electricity mix has risen from 17.8% in 2020 to over 31% in 2025, approaching one-third of the total. Emerging technologies, including the 10kwh energy storage lithium ion battery, are poised to enhance this integration, potentially paving the way for breakthroughs like the battery that will finally unlock massless energy storage in future systems.

 

Despite this progress, hard coal and lignite still account for nearly half of Poland's energy mix, placing its electricity production among the most polluting in the EU. Poland expects to achieve a major transition to low-carbon power generation in the early 2030s, when its first nuclear power plant will be operational.
