large-scale energy storage

Polish energy group PGE recently launched a tender for a 400MW/800MWh battery energy storage system. The project comprises two independent power plants, both scheduled for commissioning in 2029, and has secured 17-year capacity market contracts. The capacity market mechanism, a cornerstone of large-scale energy storage projects in Poland, significantly enhances project financing feasibility by providing long-term guaranteed revenue.

According to the tender documents, bidders must submit proposals by September 16, 2025. Poland is currently accelerating the activation of its energy storage market with its capacity market system and a €1 billion capital expenditure subsidy program. The industry predicts that the country will lead energy storage deployment in Central and Eastern Europe in the coming years.

Industry news indicates that Poland's energy storage development will be a core topic at the "Central and Eastern Europe Energy Storage Summit" in Warsaw on September 23-24. The regional market is building a competitive new power system support capability through a combination of policy tools.
