Tesla's Shanghai Energy Storage Super Factory Completed And Started Trial Production

On May 23 this year, Tesla's second super factory in China, the Energy Storage Super Factory, broke ground in Lingang, Shanghai. On December 27, Tesla's Shanghai Energy Storage Super Factory project successfully passed the completion acceptance. It took only 7 months from the start of construction in May to completion, refreshing the "Tesla speed". The factory is expected to be officially mass-produced early next year.

Tesla's Shanghai Energy Storage Super Factory is expected to be put into production in the first quarter of 2025, with an annual production capacity of 10,000 commercial energy storage batteries Megapack, with an energy storage scale of nearly 40GWh, supplying the global market, and will become another new business card of "China's Smart Manufacturing" on the international stage.

 

This is another large-scale investment project in China after Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory in the past ten years since it entered China. This factory not only represents another important move by Tesla in its global energy storage layout, but also a strong proof of its key role in the global energy transformation. According to media reports, Tesla's Q3 revenue from power generation and energy storage business in 2024 was US$2.376 billion, a year-on-year increase of 52.4%. In particular, Tesla's energy business gross profit margin in Q3 reached a record high of 30.5%, indicating that container solar battery energy storage system has become an important growth point for Tesla.
