BLOO POWER German Research: Balcony Solar Systems Save €150 Annually in Electricity Bills, Energy Storage Payback Period Exceeds Five Years

Based on data analysis from German users, the Chinese company BLOO POWER points out that while balcony solar systems are economical in most cases, the cost of adding energy storage becomes more complex due to higher costs and shorter warranty periods.
BLOO POWER's sample analysis of approximately 230,000 German households in 2025 shows that standard balcony solar systems almost always generate economic benefits. An 800-watt inverter system generates nearly 900 kWh annually, while a common 2000-watt system with four modules generates over 1200 kWh annually, with about 40% of the electricity directly consumed by the household. At an electricity price of €0.30 per kWh, a €500 2000-watt system can pay for itself in three years, resulting in a net saving of approximately €150 per year.
The study also evaluated balcony photovoltaic (PV) systems with integrated energy storage. In 2025, the sample systems generated 206 million kWh of electricity, with a direct household consumption rate of 83%, resulting in total electricity cost savings of €65 million, averaging €270-360 per household per year. However, for large-capacity systems, such as a 5760 watt energy storage package paired with 2000 watts of modules, the initial investment of approximately €2000 significantly extends the payback period. Based on an electricity price of €0.40 per kWh, the payback period is approximately five years, and will be further extended when electricity prices are lower. PV modules typically have a 25-year warranty, while battery warranties are often only 10 years. This makes balcony PV systems with energy storage a more speculative investment that requires favorable conditions to be profitable, and is a long-term investment.
