European C&I energy storage projects are growing, reaching 35.3 GWh in 2025. Fifty percent of French installers are actively pursuing innovative mechanisms.

The European PV market is projected to reach 65 GW of installed capacity in 2024, with a forecast of stabilization or a slight decline in 2025, entering a period of horizontal growth. Meanwhile, the energy storage market in 19 leading European markets is projected to grow from 20.1 GWh in 2024 to 35.3 GWh in 2025. The share of residential PV storage in this sector has fallen from 50% to 30%, while the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector, despite a slight decline in share, is showing an absolute increase in volume. This shift is primarily due to declining growth in the residential sector. High interest rates, stable electricity prices, and the expiration of support programs (such as Italy's Superbonus) will lead to stronger momentum in the C&I and power plant sectors in 2025.

Installer surveys show that 50% of French installers are active in the C&I sector, accounting for 72% of total capacity; the proportion is even higher in Germany. C&I installations are characterized by higher investment, longer cycles, and greater operational complexity, increasing pressure to select reliable technology partners. Innovation, therefore, has become a strategic imperative, creating value, securing profits, building trust, and fostering investment. EUPD Research has developed the Brand Leadership and Sustainability Rating (BLSR), incorporating brand trust, installer satisfaction, and R&D capabilities as a risk management tool.

Industry feedback emphasizes the need for innovation: 29% of installers in Belgium, 23% in the UK, and 21% in France are calling for product innovation, focusing on system integration, security, and scalability; while high-performance, space-saving solutions are sought in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Innovation has become crucial for survival, and the EUPD has launched the Top Innovation Awards to address this real-world challenge. Investors and manufacturers need to collaborate through detailed market analysis and coordinated collaboration to unlock the potential of the C&I segment.
