Jordan and Germany advance energy cooperation with 400MW project, with energy storage and efficiency upgrades helping renewable energy reach 40% of the total.
Dr. Saleh Karaboushe, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan, met with a high-level German economic delegation on October 23rd and emphasized the strong and fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, creating important opportunities for deeper private sector collaboration.
Currently, Jordan is conducting a number of energy studies through the Jordan-Germany Energy Partnership Program, with a professional consulting team leveraging Germany's advanced experience in energy transition, power storage, and energy efficiency improvements. Recent legislative and regulatory reforms have facilitated the wider integration of renewable energy, including the integration of behind-the-meter (BTM) energy storage systems and the use of photovoltaic power plants in grid energy reduction projects. Significant growth in the related market is expected.
Energy Ministry official Al-Zawoon revealed that the government recently officially launched a tender for a 200-megawatt photovoltaic power station and will launch tenders next year for a 100-megawatt wind power project and a 100-megawatt energy storage system, with the storage facility capable of four hours of continuous operation. These projects align with the national energy strategy, and German companies have been invited to participate. Regarding energy efficiency, Jordan continues to collaborate with the German Agency for International Cooperation and the German Energy Agency Foundation. Its 2025-2035 new energy strategy specifically targets increasing the share of renewable energy generation to 40% and contributing to the national commitment to a 31% reduction in carbon emissions, opening up new opportunities for the development of renewable energy, energy storage, and energy efficiency projects.
Members of the German business delegation highly praised the achievements of bilateral cooperation and expressed their commitment to support Jordanian energy projects by leveraging their advanced energy storage technology.
