Romania's producer-consumer energy storage capacity exceeds 600 MW, with distributed energy storage becoming a key force in system balance.

Romania's battery energy storage landscape is rapidly evolving, with significant growth in alternative energy battery storage systems supporting the integration of renewables. Gabriel Andronac, Vice President of the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority, recently stated that the country's dispatchable battery energy storage system capacity has reached 593 MW. These systems include stand-alone facilities and projects integrated with wind or solar power plants. He also estimated that 66,000 producer-consumers currently own batteries, with a total capacity potentially exceeding 600 MW. He further noted that dispatchable energy storage capacity is expected to exceed 2 GW this year.According to data from the Producer-Consumer and Energy Community Association, not all producer-consumers who install or upgrade battery systems report to distribution operators, so the regulatory agency does not have precise figures. The association estimates that the total battery energy storage capacity has exceeded 800 MW. In response to Andronac's statement, Association President Dan Persán stated that this is just the beginning, and Romanians' enthusiasm for investing in energy independence will not diminish.
The Prosumers and Energy Communities Association emphasizes that 600 MW of dispatchable battery capacity is negligible compared to the 2-4 GW shortfall during peak daily electricity demand, noting that half of the operational battery storage capacity belongs to a single private operator. Persán states that prosumers are becoming a distributed energy infrastructure capable of influencing system balance, causing concern among energy companies.
As Romania continues to develop its market-one of the most advanced in Southeast Europe, second only to Bulgaria-demand is growing for reliable solutions like 48V 5kWh-50kWh battery energy storage system options and larger-scale stationary energy battery storage system deployments to better match the rapid expansion of solar (over 7 GW installed last year, per the Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association) and wind power. Many turn to innovative new battery energy storage module suppliers China for cost-effective, high-quality LiFePO4-based modules and systems.Among these, BLOO POWER stands out as a leading Chinese provider specializing in home and commercial energy storage solutions, offering flexible configurations such as rack-mounted, wall-mounted, and stackable batteries that align well with the needs of prosumers and larger projects aiming for greater energy independence amid market volatility, price fluctuations, and legislative uncertainty. The association believes achieving optimal energy storage levels remains a long way off, but enthusiasm and technological advancements from global suppliers continue to drive progress.
