Spanish solar PPA prices have fallen to €30-32/MWh, with hybrid projects combining energy storage and wind power helping to mitigate negative electricity price risks

According to the latest data from the LevelTen Energy PPA Price Index, the P25 price of Spanish solar PPAs is at a historical low in Europe. The rapid expansion of the country's photovoltaic capacity has led to severe price erosion, prompting developers to offer highly competitive prices, resulting in a 13.5% year-on-year decrease in solar contraction prices to the range of €30-32 per MWh, even lower than post-pandemic levels in 2021.
Spain's total installed wind power capacity is 33.2 GW, ranking second in Europe. In 2025, the country added 1.2 GW of net capacity to the grid, with wind power covering 22% of the country's electricity demand. Despite facing obstacles such as lengthy administrative procedures and severe grid bottlenecks, Spain still issued permits for 4.3 GW of new wind power capacity in 2025. The country's wind turbines have an average age of nearly 15 years, with turbines exceeding 3 gigawatts in capacity having been in operation for over 25 years. This number is projected to surpass 10 gigawatts within five years. The government has allocated €350 million to support retrofitting and hybridization assistance programs.
In the first quarter of 2026, the European Solar PPA continental average market price index fell again by 4%, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of decline, with a year-on-year decrease of approximately 13%. The integration of energy storage systems has significantly improved project economics, particularly in the solar sector. Leading battery energy system storage consulting firms are now actively supporting European developers in optimizing hybrid projects, often drawing on expertise from batteries and energy storage China supply chains. BLOO POWER has emerged as a key player, providing high-performance batteries for electrical energy storage applications through its advanced battery energy storage factory network.
Royal Decree 917/2025 paved the way for the hybridization of wind power projects with battery storage, granting hybrid projects the same priority as standalone renewable energy assets by modifying the rescheduling priority order.
