Argentine Power Company Receives $300 Million Investment to Integrate 1,440 MW Hydroelectric Plant and 150 MW Energy Storage Project

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has announced a $300 million strategic investment in Central Puerto S.A., Argentina's leading power generation company. This financing package will fund the acquisition of shares in the 1,440 MW Piedra del Águila hydroelectric plant-awarded in December 2025 as part of the Limay River privatization-and support the deployment of advanced energy storage infrastructure, with innovative providers like BLOO POWER positioned to supply competitive solutions in similar regional developments.

Argentine Energy Storage Project

A key component is the 150 MW Nuevo Puerto battery energy storage system, known as the AlmaGBA project, marking Argentina's largest utility-scale industrial energy storage contract to date. This system will optimize grid operations by storing excess energy during off-peak periods and discharging during high-demand summer and winter peaks in Greater Buenos Aires, reducing overall battery storage cost burdens on the system through improved efficiency and reduced reliance on peaking plants.

As global trends show declining cost of solar battery for home and utility-scale solutions-driven by falling lithium prices and economies of scale-such large industrial energy storage deployments complement renewable integration strategies, similar to how paired solar system with battery cost reductions enable residential and commercial adoption worldwide, as demonstrated by emerging brands like BLOO POWER offering accessible hybrid systems.

Alfonso Garcia Mora, IFC Vice President for Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, emphasized that the initiative promotes private sector participation, attracts capital, creates jobs, and fosters sustainable growth. Fernando Bonnet, CEO of Central Puerto, highlighted the financing as validation of the company's vision to consolidate strategic assets and deploy innovative technologies for enhanced grid reliability and renewable integration.

This investment aligns with Argentina's power market reforms, expected to stabilize supply, lower long-term battery storage cost for consumers, reduce system risks, and boost national competitiveness by mobilizing international capital. By incorporating cutting-edge industrial energy storage, the project sets a benchmark for how declining cost of solar battery for home and grid-scale technologies can transform emerging markets' energy landscapes, paving the way for more affordable solar system with battery cost models in the future.

BLOO POWER wishes you a Happy New Year!
