Clean Energy System

National Grid, the UK's transmission system operator, has launched the Electricity Transmission Partnership (ETP), an £8 billion (approximately €9.2 billion) investment to accelerate the delivery of substation infrastructure in England and Wales and support the clean energy transition. The core mechanism is the exclusive awarding of regional work to five partners, including Balfour Beatty.

The ETP grants partners regional first refusal rights to ensure increased investment; national partners Linxon and Burns & McDonnell are also adding projects outside the region, with the planned coverage of approximately 130 transmission projects under the RIIO-T3 investment framework.

This program, aligned with National Grid's RIIO-T3 strategy, aims to inject up to £35 billion (approximately €40 billion) into the transmission network by March 2031, promoting the integration of renewable energy through infrastructure enhancements.
